Casino games - craps

Craps is one of the simpler casino games to learn. It is also another of the more popular casino games often played at parties, barbecues and sometimes even on the street. The lure of this game is that you only need a pair of dice and a few friends and you’ve got all you need for a game of Craps.

However, it is the casino version of the game that gives Craps its reputation of being a fast paced, exciting game. Players often begin with this game in the casino because of its ease of play. The basic concept is this: you place a bet on what is referred to as the “passline bet.” You make your wager before you roll the dice. If you roll a 7 or 11, then you win. If you roll a 12, 3 or 2, you lose. Any other number becomes the point number, meaning that number must be rolled again before the seven for you to win anything. If you roll the seven before you roll the point number, then you lose.

However, you do have the option to bet again in addition to your original bet. It is known as the odds bet: meaning the casino (online or real) does not have their usual house advantage and it also hedges on true odds. Many casinos and online casino sites offer lessons for Craps as it is one of the most popular and exciting games played. There is usually a great amount of money riding on Craps games and the atmosphere around the Craps table is filled with cheering spectators, all vying for the opportunity to see a player win big. This is the best way to get in the game when you are checking out a casino.

Most online casinos will allow you to play the game for free before offering you the option to play for real money. So what are you waiting for? Stop by at an online casino today and see for yourself what the fuss surrounding a game of Craps is all about.

Betting frenzy this weekend

:
If your looking for wagering action this weekend, it doesn’t get much better then this as the World Cup of soccer, the Belmont Stakes, NBA, NHL, MLB, PGA and NASCAR are all front and center.

In Germany there will be 12 stadiums, hosting 64 games that will put 3 million derrieres in the seat and the host country tackles Costa Rica on day one. Staggering numbers reveal 1.5 BILLION people will watch the opening match and 35 BILLION will take in the tournament and wagering outlets will be staffed to the maximum.

The Belmont Stakes from New York will wrap up a disappointing Triple Crown series that gave us the wonder horse Barbaro and then shattered our dreams with a freakish injury. I have been touting Bon & John all spring and like him in an exacter with Steppenwolfer that was named after the 70’s rock band Steppenwolf.

Last night the Dallas Mavericks got subpar scoring games from stars Dirk Nowitzkie and Josh Howard, but Jason Terry lit the Heat up for 32 points. They also got some quality minutes from Eric Dampier to subdue the listless Heat. Once again the fragile foul shooting of NBA players is alarming and how are you going to win when just two players on the team get to the charity stripe. Shooting 36% (7-19) on a skill that you have practiced since kindergarten is perplexing to say the least.

The Edmonton Oilers are in serious trouble down 2-0 to the Carolina Hurricanes and look for the Chris Pronger team to lay a beating on the North Carolina based Canes. This series is far from over and I look for it to go the full seven.

All baseball eyes are on the Chicago Cubs who are floundering and this may result in the dusting of manager Dusty Baker. The Cubs have lost 11 of their last 16 overall, falling 12 1/2 games out of first place. At 23-36, they've matched their season low mark of 13 games under .500.

For the Cubs, it was another night of futile at-bats against the Reds Brandon Arroyo and two relievers. Chicago has lost three in a row, getting a total of 15 hits and two runs in those games.

The PGA tour is in Rye, New York for the Barclay Classic a tuneup for the US Open and Tiger Woods is resurfacing. The nine-week layoff is the longest of his career, and Woods said he isn't sure what to expect out of his game. But having playing 18 holes at Winged Foot on May 27, he knows what to expect from the course.

Mike Weir is in striking distance after round one and you may want to place a bet on him to win this weekend.

NASCAR parks their trailers in the picturesque Pocono’s this weekend and the Roush team as usual will be front and centre as they have won the past two events staged there.

Happy Wagering!

Player profile isabelle mercier

Isabelle “No Mercy” Mercier was born in Montreal, Canada on August 5, 1975. However, she states that she currently lives out of her suitcase in hotel rooms all over the world. Isabelle travels twelve months a year and enjoys the constant changes in residence as she does not like when her life falls into a predictable pattern.

Even though she has been “playing poker all her life”, she states she has been a professional for a little over two years. Her original career plans did not involve card playing since she completed a degree in law at the age of 24, spent one year working as a lawyer and then moved to Paris to study International Law at the prestigious Sorbonne.

Since she had experience as a dealer in Montreal, she decided to work nights in a casino in Paris. Her prior experience, circumstances and her knowledge of the English language got her a fast promotion to manager of the Aviation Club de France poker room and her career in law fell by the wayside. Mercier remained at the Paris poker room for four years and then moved on to Las Vegas to learn poker.

Isabelle Mercier is single, has no children and believes in pursuing her dreams. Her plan is to play in as many Tournaments and win as many titles as possible. Mercier states that the money she wins is not significant because she spends as much as she earns.

In one of her interviews, she says that if friends and sponsors did not pay her buy-ins, she would not play. She also says that she does not receive all the money she wins because of having to pay back those who have staked her.

How Mercier got the nickname “No Mercy”: When she won the World Poker Tour Ladies’ Night Tournament $25,000 first prize in 2004, this nickname was bestowed upon her by player Mike Sexton due to her tenacious style of playing.

Her favorite game is No Limit Hold’em. However, she enjoys Hold’em in all variations.

Some of her most recent poker results:

- The French Open – EPT/Pokerstars Season 2 No Limit Hold’em – 7th place - $79,686

- 36th Annual World Series of Poker Event #33 – No Limit Hold’em – 95th place - $3,065

- 36th Annual World Series of Poker Event #13 – No Limit Hold’em – 33rd place - $8,760

- 36th Annual World Series of Poker Event #3 – Pot Limit Hold’em – 80th place - $2,215

- Paris Open of Poker – No Limit Hold’em – 2nd place - $3,991

As of this writing, Isabelle Mercier’s total tournament winnings are in excess of $360,000.

Playing poker for the first time

Many people are intimidated on their first visit to a public card room. Knowing what to expect and some simple rules of etiquette will help the first-time visitor relax and have a good time. Any card room. with more than a few tables will have a sign-up desk or board for the various games being played. Usually someone will be standing here to take your name if a seat is not immediately available. This person can explain what games are offered, the betting limits, special house rules and so on. This is the moment of your first decision: which game and for what stakes?

Choosing a game is fairly easy; you already know which game is most familiar to you. You may be surprised to find that your favorite home games are not spread in public card rooms. Most will offer one or more of Texas Hold'em, Seven-Card Stud, and Omaha Hold'em (usually hi/lo split, 8-or-better for low). Sometimes you will find California Lowball (5-card draw for low), Seven-Card Stud hi/lo, or Hold'em variations like Pineapple. You will rarely find High Draw (5-card draw for hi), and will never find home game pot-builders like Anaconda, Follow-the-Queen, 7-27 or Guts. Except for the joker in draw poker, card rooms. never use wild cards.

Choosing a betting limit is a bit harder. It is best to start playing at a limit so small that the money is not important to you. After all, with all the excitement of your first time playing poker there is no need to be worried about losing the nest egg to a table full of sharks. Betting limits are typically expressed as $1-$5 or $3-$6, and may be "spread-limit" or "structured-limit". A spread-limit means one can bet or raise any amount between the two numbers (although a raise must be at least as much as a previous bet or raise). For example, in $1-$5 spread-limit, if one person bets $2 the next person is free to call the $2 or raise $2, $3, $4, or $5, but cannot raise just $1. On the next round, everything is reset and the first bettor may bet anything from $1 to $5. In structured-limit like $3-$6 (usually recognizable by a factor of two between betting limits), all betting and raising on early rounds is in units of $3, and on later rounds is in units of $6. One only has a choice of *whether* to bet or raise; the amount is fixed by the limit. One usually doesn't have a choice between spread and structured betting at a given limit. Keep in mind that it is quite easy to win or lose 20 "big bets" (the large number in the limit) in an hour of play. Also, since your mind will be occupied with the mechanics of the game while the regular players consider strategy, you are more likely to lose than win. In other words: choose a low limit.

If the game you want is full, your name will go on a list and the person running the list will call you when a seat opens up. Depending on the card room., you may have trouble hearing your name called and they may be quick to pass you over, so be alert. Once a seat is available, the list person will vaguely direct you toward it, or toward a floor man who will show you where to sit.

Now is the time for you to take out your money and for the other players to look you over. A good choice for this "buy-in" is ten to twenty big bets, but you must buy-in for at least the posted table minimum, usually about five big bets. Most public poker games are played "table-stakes", which means that you can't reach into your pocket for more money during the play of a hand. It also means that you can't be forced out of a pot because of insufficient funds. If you run out of money during a hand you are still in the pot (the dealer will say you are "all-in"), but further betting is "on the side" for an additional pot you cannot win. Between hands, you are free to buy as many chips as you want, but are not allowed to take any chips off the table unless you are leaving. This final rule gives opponents a chance to win back what they have lost to you. If you bust out, you may buy back in for at least the table minimum or leave.

Once you have told the dealer how much money you are playing, the dealer may sell you chips right away or call over a chip runner to do so. You may want to tell the dealer that you are a first-time player. This is a signal to the dealer to give a little explanation when it is your turn to act, and to the other players to extend you a bit of courtesy when you slow down the game. Everyone will figure it out in a few minutes anyway, so don't be bashful. You may even ask to sit out a few hands just to see how it all works.

There are three ways that pots are seeded with money at the beginning of the hand. The most familiar to the home player is the "ante", where each player tosses a small amount into the pot for the right to be dealt a hand. The second way, often used in conjunction with an ante, is the "forced bring-in". For example, in seven-card stud, after everyone antes and is dealt the first three cards, the player with the lowest up card may be forced to bet to get things started. The third way, often used in games without up cards like Hold'em or Omaha, is a "forced blind bet". This is similar to the bring-in, but is always made by the person immediately after the player with the "button". The "button" is a plastic disk that moves around the table and indicates which player is acting as dealer for the hand (of course, the house dealer does the actual dealing of cards, but does not play). A second or even third blind may follow the first, usually of increasing size. Whichever seed method is used, note that this initial pot, small as it is, is the only reason to play at all.

If the game has blinds, the dealer may now ask you if you want to "post". This means, "do you want to pay extra to see a hand now, in bad position, and then pay the blinds, or are you willing to sit and watch for a few minutes?" Answer "no, I'll wait" and watch the game until the dealer tells you it's time to begin, usually after the blinds pass you.

Finally, it is your turn to get cards and play. Your first impression will probably be how fast the game seems to move. If you are playing stud, several up cards may be "mucked" (folded into the discards) before you even see them; if you are playing hold'em, it may be your turn to act before you have looked at your cards. After a few hands you should settle into the rhythm and be able to keep up. If you ever get confused, just ask the dealer what is going on.

Casino games poker intellectual component. part one

According to the historians' statements and to the archaeologists' testimonies, games have existed throughout the whole history of human society. Before we start to learn more about poker we would like to formulate the general classification of games and to identify the place of poker within its frames. Mostly classifications are relative but still we need them in order to have the general idea of any phenomenon.

Athletic games, intellectual games and gambling.

Athletic games: the idea of the game, where the final result (victory or defeat) is achieved largely at the expense of athletic qualities of the competitors.

Intellectual games: the idea of the game, where the final result (victory or defeat) is achieved largely at the expense of intellectual qualities of the competitors.

The relativity of these definitions is obvious. Athletic games (boxing, football or any other type) surely contain intellectual component. In every type of games we have to think. The majority of famous athletes today prefer to keep their personal athletic diaries where they describe in every detail all of their competition and training matters.

Standing apart from others is the third type of games: gambling and casino games.

The definition of gambling and casino games based on the idea of the game, where the final result (victory or defeat) is achieved by chance. In such kinds of games the athletic or intellectual or any others qualities of the competitors are not principal. Believe it or not but according to this classification poker belongs to the second category, intellectual games. Let's turn to the more detailed review of the latter.

Intellectual games. Games with almost perfect information and games with inexact information.

Games with almost perfect information: the idea of the game where all the game information (the position, the players' actions) is fully open to all participants of the game.

To tell the truth there is restricted information even in that kind of games. That is: every player has its own idea of the game action and these thoughts as a rule are unknown to others. Chess is the most striking example of intellectual games with almost perfect information.

Games with inexact information: the idea of the game, where the part of information is mutually hidden from all its participants. The information type can be different. For example in backgammon the game position and players' actions are fully open, however, the result of future dice toss is unknown to all of participants. In turn, in poker the scope of hidden information is bigger: the unknown information is not only the future coming out of cards from a pack but also the cards of each participant because they are hidden from the rest participants of the game.

We have made this preliminary analysis in order to draw the readers' attention to the comparison of two types of intellectual games. As an example for a game with almost perfect information we will examine chess, as this game is probably well-known to our readers. As an example of games with inexact information we will study poker.

We have found out that in both the games the final result is achieved by intellectual qualities. But the intellectual effort is just a verbal definition. What does it stand for?

Pepsi 400 daytona international speedway

After numerous frustrating finishes, Tony Stewart finally won at NASCAR's most famous track. Stewart dominated the rain-delayed Pepsi 400 last year, but still needed a dramatic four-wide pass to move to the front, then pulled away on a restart with nine laps left to seal his first Nextel Cup victory in 14 starts at Daytona International Speedway. “Winning this race at the Daytona 500 or at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the best win a driver could ever have” Stewart said. But Stewart will settle for this for now, he celebrated by climbing the fence into the flag stand to claim the checkered flag. It was his second consecutive victory and showed that the 2002 series champion can still be a contender. He started from the pole, led a race-record 151 of 160 laps, and moved to third in the standings Daytona International Speedway opened in 1959, but the history of auto racing at Daytona goes back much farther than that. In 1936, the precursor to today's Daytona 500 was born on a course that went down 1.5 miles of highway.

William H. G. France, a mechanic and racer who'd moved south from Washington, D. C., eventually took over the job of running the beach races on the second of two courses used for those events. In 1947, he presided over a meeting at Daytona's Streamline Hotel where NASCAR was born.

A decade later, France began working on his showplace. "Big Bill" France was building it, he insisted on 31-degree banking in the corners. That's as steep as he could make the turns and still keep the machines putting down the asphalt from tipping over.

When drivers gathered for the first Daytona 500, it was an eye-popping experience. Drivers were more accustomed to half-mile dirt tracks and saw the 1.366-mile paved track at Darlington.

Bob Welborn ran 140.121 mph to win the pole for the first Daytona 500, and Lee Petty won in a photo finish over Johnny Beauchamp. It was at Daytona International Speedway where Junior Johnson discovered that if he tucked his car right behind another one, he could go faster than he could run by himself. And drafting became a part of the sport.

Winning gambling strategy

A Winning gambling strategy is based on statistical analysis of the occurrences of each event in the game and an analysis of the odds the casino applies to that event. Casino operators use the occurrence of these events to calculate the odds for the various occurrences within the game. You must identify those events which are good bets for you and those which are good bets for the casino and avoid those that are overly favorable to the casino. Understanding these odds allows us to formulate a winning gambling strategy for each game that we choose to play.

Every experienced gambler should know that each time the cards are dealt, the wheel is spun or the dice are rolled, we will loose more times than what we will win. This is a statistical fact of gambling. By only placing bets that are favorable to the player or bets in which the house has only a very small advantage, we can increase our chances of becoming a winner.

Using a simple basic strategy, a good blackjack player can change the game odds from slightly favoring the casino to slightly favoring the player. On average, out of every 100 hands dealt, you will loose 45 and should win 55. This does not mean that if you record the results of a hundred hands, you can expect to achieve that result. If you take a sample of a million hands, played by a good player, the results should be very close to the results stated.

Over a short period, you can have a dream run and win 60 odd percent of your hands. You could just as easily have a disastrous run and loose 70% of your hands. This is why a sound money management strategy should be an integral part of your winning gambling strategy.

You can find many free gambling strategies on the web for almost all gambling games. Many of these are sound and feature material that will take you from being a novice to a respected player in a short time frame. Take off your rose colored glasses when you read these gambling strategies because some are sound and are really good advice and some are well… very esoteric. Technical playing skills alone will not make you a successful gambler in the long run. Aspects of psychology, your nerve, personal courage and determination are also required and will be discussed in another article.

I have used my favorite game to highlight the importance of a sound gambling Strategy. I could have used the game of craps which has many bets that are highly favorable to the house and the free odds bet where the house has no mathematical advantage.

All online casinos offer cash bonuses to attract new players. These cash bonuses can dramatically increase your chances of winning and should be seriously considered when formulating your gambling strategy. Likewise many casinos offer loyalty programs and reward players on the basis of the amount of money wagered each month. Try keeping a record of your wagers during a gaming session. Whilst you may have only started out with say $100, you win a bit, you loose a bit during the course of the session but your total wagers may amount to several thousand dollars and this is the number used to calculate your loyalty bonus. Regular players should take advantage of these programs.

Once you reach the stage of being a respectable player at your chosen games, you will then be in a position to evaluate the myriad of advanced gambling strategies for sale on the net for most gambling games. Some are cutting edge and some are recycled variations of old failed strategies.

Adherence to a sound gambling strategy can substantially reduce your reliance on Lady Luck.
