When someone is on a wheelchair, special care must be given when the person needs to ride in automobile. This is because the individual is not able to get in or out of the vehicle like normal people.

The person can lift the disabled individual into the car and when getting out which will take a long time or make this happen faster by installing an electrical wheelchair lift on the automobile.

There are two types of wheelchair lifts. The first is powered by hydraulics and the other using electricity. More people prefer the electric type because this can be wired to the battery of the vehicle. This saves a few dollars from buying fluid, which has to be placed periodically to keep it functioning.

Electric wheelchair lifts have been around for some time. Even if the store has models available for various vans, it is still advisable to bring this in for the technician to get the right measurements.

When this has been completed, the customer can bring the vehicle back in for the installation of the lift. This could take a day or two if there are many customers who are also having this done.

The individual should check if this works properly before leaving the shop with and without the one on the wheelchair.

All electric wheelchair lifts are ADA compliant. This should be checked from time to time to make sure there wouldn’t be any problems for the one who is on the wheelchair.

There are things you can do to help yourself, such as validate the ownership of the vehicle - by checking the log book or registration details, accuracy of the mileage and age.

You could look for signs of poor colour matching or non-original welding. These could be tell-tale signs of the vehicles’ involvement in an accident. Check under the bonnet and look for engine leaks, look on the ground for oil leaks and for blue smoke from the exhaust pipe.

Ask to see the service history - is it close to another service? Is the mileage correct? What’s the condition of the seat upholstery? It’s also a good idea to take the car for a spin - check the steering, brakes, gears, clutch, etc. How does it handle in general?

All these things can add up to help you make the right decision. If you’re looking for real peace of mind, however, there is the option to get the experts to check it out for you. Considering the fact that you could be spending a few thousand pounds, the cost of an RAC Vehicle Inspection is well worthwhile. And you can get a good discount if you already have RAC breakdown cover (even if it’s only roadside assistance).

For only a fiver, massively reduced from Ј24.99, you can also get an RAC car data check. This will tell you whether or not the car is stolen, if it’s an insurance write off, if there’s any outstanding finance on it or even if it’s had previous plates.

The last thing you want to do is to buy a vehicle, find out later that it’s not roadworthy and end up paying a small fortune to get it through the MOT. More importantly though, your life and the lives of others may rest on the condition of the vehicle you purchase, so if in doubt, get a qualified second opinion before you buy.

Fast cars and the weight issue

Weight is one of the most important issues to consider when building a fast car for road or track. Putting a car on a serious diet is pretty much free horsepower, as any attempt to lighten a car improves the power to weight ratio, this seriously improves acceleration.

The gains on a lightening a car are huge and not just limited to gains in acceleration either. Once you have lightened a fast car you will find the car performs better in the corners and under braking, parts such as brakes and tires will last longer on the car also.

The potential gains are huge but it must be done correctly, you would not want to lighten a rear wheel drive car too much on the rear or you may find traction a problem particularly with a high power output.

The truth is your fast car could be made a great deal faster cheaply and easily just by shaving a few pounds off the body.

How do we remove weight from the fast car?

This bit is as easy as you want it to be, but as with most forms of car modification it depends on how far you want to go. I know a guy who races a BMW and he decided to go all out on weight saving, he even scraped every bit of under-seal from the floors of the car, extreme perhaps but he managed to remove nearly 2 stone of under-seal, not a bad effort.

The obvious place to start saving weight on your fast car is by removing the interior, and anything else that you do not need, the front seats can be replaced with light weight racing items, the unused wiring removed, carpets and sound deadening, pretty much all of the unnecessary parts, my car has just a driver seat and a cage with much of the unnecessary wiring removed. This makes for a car with very impressive performance.

Many other components can be replaced with lighter parts, gear box casings, axle covers etc. It is worth noting that a stainless steel exhaust is lighter than the same in mild steel, so this constitutes a worthwhile investment.

It is also important to reduce the unsprung weight on the car also, by this I mean wheels, brakes and anything else before the suspension mounts, this provides a very good increase in the handling of the car.

Truck driver safety - behavior plays a vital role

Hiring the wrong truck drivers can be disastrous. Hiring the right ones can save lives.

Naturally, safety training plays an important role in driver safety. Other factors may be even more significant according to a 1993 study conducted by Behavioral-Values Research Associates.

The research was conducted on maintenance workers between the ages of 22 and 64, who had been with (XYZ) Company for an average of 17.5 years. They were given four assessments that measured their behavioral style and attitudes, their knowledge of safety rules, and their pictorial and mechanical reasoning abilities. Interestingly, the study shows the only significant differences between the two groups of workers (injured vs. non-injured) were in their behavioral styles and attitudes/values.

The research validates that when companies implement a pre-hiring assessment selection system, four things happen. These companies:

· Reduce accidents

· Reduce worker’s comp claims

· Reduce turnover

· Reduce maintenance costs.

G & P Trucking in Gaston, SC, has been assessing the behaviors of all driver applicants for seven years. G & P President, Clifton Parker says, “We are doing a better job during the hiring process. The behavior testing has given us insight on the applicants’ true beliefs and actions rather than finding out later. The bottom line is that it has helped us lower accident cost.”

Common sense tells us that truck drivers who are naturally careful and cautious are going to cause fewer accidents than those who are prone to experience “road rage.” So, trucking companies would be wise to hire drivers with a “long fuse,” people who are slow to anger.

The safest drivers are those who are steady and cautious by nature, and those who genuinely put others’ well being above their own. The BVRA research found workers with the best safety records are those who are high in the “S” and “C” behavioral styles and low in the “D” factor. They are also high in the Social value. Let me explain.

In 1928, Harvard psychologist William Moulton Marston defined the four behavioral styles (DISC) we all have in varying degrees. Around the same time, psychologist Eduard Spranger published his studies of six values or attitudes that determine how we view the world and what’s important to us.

Target Training International in Scottsdale, AZ, continued their research and produced the first computer-generated behavior and values assessments that companies use today to hire and manage the best employees. These are two of the assessments used in the BVRA research project.

The four behavioral styles are “D”-Dominant, “I”-Influencing, “S”-Steady, and “C”-Cautious.

Those high in the “D” factor want control, they are quick to anger, and become impatient easily. They are the ones most likely to experience “road rage” if they don’t like the way someone else is driving.

Those high in the “I” behavioral factor are extroverted and people oriented; they talk a lot and like attention. The research found no significant difference in the “I” factor between the injured and non-injured workers.

People high in the “S” factor are steady and patient, they move slowly, and have a strong focus on their team’s success. So we can see why those with a Core “S” style are more likely to be safe drivers.

Those high in the “C” factor are extremely cautious, pay attention to detail, and believe in following rules set by others.

So, it’s understandable that truck drivers high in both the “S” and “C” factors, and low in the “D” style will have or cause fewer accidents. It’s also significant that research shows those high in the Social value are the safest workers because they selflessly put others’ needs above their own.

One thing BVRA‘s research didn’t show, which I believe is significant, is the ranking of those workers in the Individualistic Value. Even more than those with Core “D” behavioral styles, people high in this value are passionate about having power and control over situations and other people, so I believe it’s important for trucking companies to hire drivers who are low in this attitude.

Simply put, the ideal driver – the one you want to hire – is one who is high in the “S” and “C” behavioral factors, low in the “D” factor, high in the Social value, and low in the Individualistic attitude.

What is in Monte Carlo that Chevrolet named one its cars from it? This sounds like a $500,000-question in the famous game show “Who wants to be a millionaire?” Is it the casinos and Europe’s best resorts? Absolutely not. So it must be the Circuit de Monaco, the home of Formula One Grand Prix. One of the longest running and most respected car rallies marking the first event of the season during the World Rally Championship calendar is a regular event in Monte Carlo.

Chevy Monte Carlo has always been a sports car. In 1970, the model started as a two-door coupe resembling Pontiac’s G-body Grand Prix. Upon its retirement in 2007, it evolved as a mid-range two-door sedan. “On Tuesday, June 19, 2007, the last two 2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo models rolled off the line at the Oshawa Assembly Plant [in Ontario, Canada]….. The two models features the "SS" 5.3L V8 Engine with its "best in class" rated 303 horsepower (226 kW); 18" polished aluminum wheels; heated exterior mirrors; and AM/FM/CD and XM Radio", the GM On-line Auction News announced in August 2007.

The Monte Carlo came out as a two-door, sports car looking model consistently. This is obviously to mark its difference from the Impala, the street variant of Chevy’s mid-sized sedans.

Maybe this Chevy model is already a part of history, but one should not forget its glorious days in National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) races. Every owner of this racing stock deserves a badge – a Chevy Monte Carlo keychain. These very affordable memorabilia are available in varying elegant designs made of distinct materials, such as leather (silver or gold plated), round Chrome (silver or gold coated), and stainless metal (round or oval) priced modestly at $6.99 a piece.

The name ‘Monte Carlo’ stands out over a black or blue crystallite dome attached to a silver, gold, Chrome or metal plate. In other variants, the old red, white and blue Chevy Logo is placed above the ‘Monte Carlo SS’ insignia. SS stands for the ‘Super Sport’ edition of Chevy models.

You may have won a NASCAR race with your Monte Carlo. You may have not won any official race at all, tried the underground race tracks and nearly got busted. But this faithful roadrunner always took you to work, to the beach or simply back to the comfort of your home.

I am sure you’ll agree with me. You chose Monte Carlo because racing is your first love. You’ve always felt that craving and need for speed, just like racing in that famous computer-simulated game called Need for Speed Series.

Do not hide this truth to your peers and the people around you. In today’s corporate rat race, your personality should be intimidating at times. Let your car do that thing for you. The more “I will not dare to race with this guy” remarks you’ve got, the more chances that lesser people will be joining you in the competition on the way to the top. Hang on to that grand car racer’s badge always.
